Saab Key Programming
Saab cars built since about 1994 come with an immobilizer system built on coded keys. The addition of a key requires a new transponder, as well as special programming. This is usually done by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.
This can be expensive. It is always advisable to keep an extra set of keys in your possession.

Key for Wired
Saab cars are usually delivered with two keys. If you own only one, you should purchase an extra key as soon as you can. This is because if it's lost and the car is damaged, it will require an entirely new CIM and the locking cylinders replaced. This can be costly especially for used vehicles.
The next step is to wire the row and column wires to the microcontroller. This is the most challenging part of the project and will require a great amount of soldering. There's no standard way to go about it, however, you should consider how you will route and solder each column and row. There are 22 microcontroller wires and pins that you can connect for this keyboard. It has five rows and 17 column.
After the columns and rows are soldered, it's the time to connect them to key switches. Solder a diode to each key switch pin. This will shield the pins from current, preventing them from being cut off. A diode allows current to only flow in one direction. It features a visual indicator, a black band, that indicates which direction current will flow.
Some of the tools available at auto parts stores -- such as the Autel MaxiIM IM608 Pro and IM508 -- may help customers in the shop, or even DIY customers in some cases replace keys in the program and restore lost immobilizer data Sanabria says. The tools plug into the OBD port and guide the user through the process, making it easier than replacing the computer inside the vehicle.
Jump-starting the battery
A lot of people keep a set of jumper cables in their trunk for emergency situations however, jumping a battery in newer automobiles might not be the most efficient option. These vehicles are equipped with a number of electronic devices and computers that communicate with each other. A surge of voltage when the battery is connected another can fry the components and render your vehicle unusable.
Start the vehicle that is working and let it run for about two minutes before you connect the cables to the one that is disabled. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal on the battery that is good (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the car's hood. The engine block is a good option. Do not connect the black cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery because it could ignite an ignition spark that ignites the gasoline in the engine bay.
Once the cables are connected the vehicle you are not using and let it run for about five minutes before you disconnect the cables in reverse order. Remember that the battery on the Saab 9-3 will be charged while you drive, so it could take a while for the battery to go back to its original level. It's a good idea to buy a spare key fob as soon as you can, because replacing the only functioning one requires the installation of a brand new computer module and a special program to convince it that your missing keys are not trying to steal the car.
Replacement Case

Many Saab owners only have one key for their car and if they lose that they'll be charged. It's expensive to add keys and will require replacing the CIM or TWICE in the case of older models. In the event of theft, or any other catastrophe, it is best to have an extra key. Even if the key is "new" it will not function.
The dealer will charge the highest dollars if you only have one working key. We can reset and reprogram the computer's EEEPROM in order to be able to accept a replacement key without having to replace the entire system. This can save you a lot of money. It's also a lot cheaper than waiting until you lose your sole key.
